The Parental Rights Coalition (PRC) is an organization advocating for the rights of parents across Canada. We feel that there has been an erosion of parental authority in our nation, resulting in an array of serious issues that did not exist in previous generations. As we have travelled coast-to-coast, a universal theme has emerged amongst parents. Many are concerned that there is an attempt to "reimagine" the roles of parents, educators and governments in relation to raising children. There is a growing sentiment of discrimination being felt by parents. Article 7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) states: "All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination."
Until recently, parents and the public have been unaware of the specifics around certain curriculum in their local schools. Most would say that they are unaware of methodologies being used by educators and policies being passed and implemented by local governments. Inquiries by concerned parents are often met with hostility, shaming and aggression. The PRC is attempting to organize and bring together parents, individuals, families and organizations of all backgrounds and beliefs to unite around the common theme of protecting children. It is important to remember that children are part of the vulnerable sector. It is universally understood that the expectation and responsibility of protection is borne by parents. To have any other expectations placed upon parents by educators or government policies likely would be a violation of parental rights.
The PRC will provide comprehensive ways for parents and organizations to become better educated, connected and organized in order to fulfill their parental duty of determining and implementing what is in the best interest of their children. We will be hosting a series of town hall discussions in a safe environment with an appropriate format in place to ultimately effect change.
